As we enter the season of giving, join the Virginia Zoo in supporting local cancer patients through a partnership with local nonprofit Paint Pink. 🎨🩷
Paint Pink was founded by Kim Keene, the late partner of one of the Virginia Zoo’s dedicated Board Members.
To honor Kim’s memory and to give back to a family who has given so much to the Zoo over the years, on November 9th from 12pm-3pm we will be hosting a fundraiser selling keychains featuring art created by the Zoo animals for a suggested donation of $5.
For all those who give a gift of $10 or more, you will automatically be entered to win a one-of-a-kind 24”x 36” canvas painted by our four adult orangutans: Dara, Solaris, Pepper, and Schnitz. All proceeds will support the missions of both the Paint Pink and Virginia Zoo nonprofits.
The impact that Kim Keene made during her 55 years can be felt in the number of people she leaves behind.
The founder and former owner of The Starving Artist, a Norfolk café on North Colley Avenue, and creator of nonprofit Paint Pink, died September 16, 2024 after a battle with breast cancer that began seven years ago. Her last wish was for Paint Pink to continue helping residents through their cancer journeys long after she was gone.
